DEATH!
Scary, huh? The thought that some day, some way we’re going to die! Then what? Do we just rot away into oblivion only to be briefly remembered years later when someone runs across our picture in an old photo album (or CD) and asks “Just who is that old fart?”
Or does a part of us (like a “soul”) wind up somewhere else? If we’ve been good doobies and believed and acted a certain way, will it go to a wonderful eternal life? Or does that have to wait until later – until certain other special things have happened? Or – because we haven’t done what we should have been doing here or earth – will we wind up stoking the fires of hell –forever!!? Or…
Some really, really scary possibilities here, huh? It’s really no wonder that so many of us are afraid of death. In the first place, it’s kind of yucky to think about not being here with our family and friends and secondly, we’re not sure at all about what happens after that. The fear of the unknown is alive and well. No wonder the media spends so much time covering the subject. We’re continually bombarded with a multitude of “facts” about how other folks have died. Natural disasters, auto and plane crashes, war, illnesses – all these stories flip our emotional switch to the “on” position and nudge our fears right out into the open. Don’t you just hate it when that happens?
Well geez folks, all this scary death stuff has been fun and has prompted a bunch of neat, creepy images and a whole bunch of movies and TV programs (most of which I have thoroughly enjoyed) however, I really think that with just a bit of modification to our thinking (yes, programming) we can chill out and scoot all this spooky stuff into the history file.
If you buy into at least some of my theories that I’ve presented in other articles, our human death is nothing to be feared at all. Let’s see. If we’re basically spiritual entities who existed previously in “heaven” and who are spending a short time in a human body in this earthly existence to learn a few things, then our bodily death is nothing more than a way for us to get our butts back home. And if we really don’t have to worry about whether or not we’re going to wind up in hell or some other weird place, the pressure is off and a bunch of our fear can be put to rest. We’re just goin’ home!
So what are we going to do when we get there? I dunno.
Maybe have a review of what we were able to accomplish while we were
here at the
So what about all of our friends and loved ones who have died? My short answer to this question is that they’re all probably doing just great! We haven’t really “lost” them at all. No, they’re not around in human form any more but there’s no reason to think that they’re not close by. You can about bet that any love or friendship that existed between the two of you before their passing is still as strong as ever. You may even get some kind of an indication from time to time that they’re still around. Even if this doesn’t happen in an obvious way, feel free to talk to them any time about anything. I’d bet that one way or another they’ll get your message. Pretty cool thought, huh?
This really is a wonderful creation and I sincerely believe that we’re extremely fortunate to be able to be a part of it. And – I believe that since there’s an extremely good chance that love provides the foundation for the existence of this great “system”, there is NOTHING about our death for any of us to fear. NOTHING! And if I’m wrong? Aw what the hell – I’ll buy you a double shot of Spirit Juice later…
