How’d We Get Here Anyhow?

Here on earth?  Old mom and dad humpin’, of course!  Oh, you meant from a spiritual point of view.  Silly me!  OK, we can talk about that for a few minutes.

I’m guessing that one day we might have been just hanging around back on the “other side”, doing our thing and pretty much minding our own business when one of our mentors glides up and sez, “Yo, ‘insert your name here’.  Don’t you think it’s about time we cranked up your developmental process a few notches?  Let’s get you into the University of Earth for a little while.”

Depending on our level of development, our response at that point probably ranged anywhere between “Oh, Crap!” (I’m sure you’ve known folks who obviously didn’t want to be here…) to “Cool, let’s get it done!”

We’d then have the standard leader to learner chat about what we needed to accomplish while we were at the U of E.  Love is always one of the main subjects.  The goal here of course, is that we are ultimately able to recognize, experience and feel true, system-based love toward everyone and everything.  Other areas of focus might include patience, compassion, tolerance, forgiveness – or any one of hundreds of other topics that could be pertinent to our personal development.

Once this was agreed on, we would need to choose an earthly environment that would provide the surroundings and input most conducive to our personal lessons.  (I’d always wondered how Dorothy wound up in Kansas…)  This would likely include not only the location (address: Somewhere, Earth) but also our parents and a bunch of the folks we’d be hanging out with and learning from perhaps even throughout our entire earthly stay.

Just in case you haven’t figured it out yet, this “logic” process allows me to rationalize a basis for the really, really crappy situations some folks find themselves in.  A cursory look at the absolutely miserable existences of some people – the hunger, poverty, armed conflicts, abuse of all types, etc. – would lead me to initially believe that there just ain’t no God or if he does exist, he doesn’t give a fat rat’s behind about any of us.  No kind, loving God would ever subject any person to the atrocities we find on this pitiful excuse for a planet.

However, the belief that we are all briefly here on a fast-track developmental process tends to lessen the emotional impact of mankind’s adversities.  And – if we are truly spiritual beings who are only temporarily occupying this human body, we would be assured that no matter what happened to our physical being, our spiritual self would survive and hopefully with a greater understanding of ourselves and the system.

So, having reached an agreement (perhaps reluctantly) with our leader on the objectives and conditions of our matriculation at the U of E, shortly thereafter we dutifully slid into our human form (I’m betting somewhere around the time of our birth) and arrived – now completely clueless – at our earthly destination.

Since then, most of us have been stumbling through life just doing what we think we should be doing considering our personal situation.  And yes, whether we realize it or not, we’ve all been learning – or at the very least, adding to our list of experiences.  We’ve all experienced some level of hardships and encountered numerous obstacles in our paths.  We’ve all felt a multitude of different emotions and been subjected to a variety of potentially significant lessons.  And at least at some time in our lives, we have all experienced love.  Pretty cool, don’tcha think?
