Laying the Groundwork
Over the past twenty-five years or so, I’ve been a big proponent of thinking – and questioning of ourselves, our society and the things we believe and hold as truths. As a result of doing exactly that – thinking and questioning – I’ve formed many opinions that do not necessarily blend smoothly with the mainstream of thought. I’m using this format (“Off the Beaten Path” articles) to express those opinions and to encourage you to join me in thinking outside the box. I’ll never expect anyone to fully agree with me on anything I’ll be presenting. Besides being extremely silly and presumptuous of me, my main purpose in doing this is simply to attempt to open another door for you. A door that hopefully will lead to an increased comfort with the very act of questioning many of the “truths” that we clutch so tightly and consequently then, to a better understand of ourselves and all the others who share this good earth with us.
Some of what is contained in these articles is a result of my foundation spiritual beliefs. That doesn’t make the opinions any more or less valid than anyone else’s. It’s just my personal basis for how I think. So… to provide just a touch of insight, here are some of my spiritual building blocks. OK, enough of the blatant promo’s. Here are a few of my beliefs:
1. God is not an individual spiritual entity. Rather, “he” is very likely the primary force that allows all existences to be – the total of all the love, wisdom and power that has – and will ever – exist.
2. We humans are, in our primary form, spiritual entities. Our home is that other existence or dimension that we normally refer to as heaven. We are temporarily occupying these human animal bodies here on earth so that we can communicate and move around in this environment.
3. We are all here on this planet to learn those things that
will help us to develop further spiritually.
This is primarily an educational environment. I refer to it as the
4. We are never left alone to face this experience by ourselves. We all have designated spiritual entities to help us with our learning experiences. We all have the ability, at least to some extent, to communicate with our associates “back home” and benefit from their guidance.
5. Love – true, pure spiritual love – is the cornerstone on which all of creation is built.
So there you have it. The five main personal spiritual building blocks that form the foundation of my beliefs – and my life. A life that over the past years, has involved a lot of thinking and questioning and overall, has been one hell of a beautiful, kick-ass experience.
Now let’s take just a minute and put this all into the proper perspective. I think it’s only fair to tell you my granddaughter has a puppy (Dino the mutt dog) that just got back from being neutered. As a result, I have just spent the last ten minutes soaking up dog barf out of the living room carpet. I might mention too, that as I write this, the parrot in the cage about three feet away from me is making obscene sounds, my bride is behind me at her computer talking on the phone with her brother and my granddaughter just bopped in to ask where St. Philips College is. All this helps to re-emphasize the fact that even though I’ve developed what may be considered somewhat unique beliefs and do tend to walk a ways “off the beaten path” occasionally, my life is about as normal as you could ever get. Whatever opinions may follow in the articles under this heading are simply that – one average man’s opinion of a bunch of different things. Take that and five bucks and you’ll be able to get a cup of coffee just about anywhere…
