Once upon a time In a land far away, A beautiful, independent, self-assured princess happened upon a frog as she sat contemplating ecological issues on the shores of an unpolluted pond in a verdant meadow near her castle.

The frog hopped into the princess’ lap and said “Elegant lady, I was once a handsome prince, until an evil witch cast a spell upon me. One kiss from you, however, and I will turn back into the dapper young prince that I am.

And then my sweet, we can marry and set up housekeeping in your castle with my mother. Where you can prepare meals, clean my clothes, bear my children, and forever feel grateful and happy doing so.”

That night, as the princess dined sumptuously on lightly sauteed frog legs seasoned in white wine and onion cream sauce, she chuckled and thought to herself…

I don’t friggin’ think so…

“Come to the edge.”

“We can’t. We’re afraid.”

“Come to the edge.”

“We can’t. We will fall!”

“Come to the edge.”

And they came.

And he pushed them,

And they flew.

French poet William Apollinaire

May today there be peace within.

May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.

May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.

May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.

May you be content knowing you are a child of God.

Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.

It is there for each and every one of us.

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year old Texas rancher, whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the man.

Eventually the topic got around to politics and the people who have been elected – or are trying to be elected - to public office.

The old rancher said, “Well, ya know, every once in a while, we wind up with a ‘post turtle’.”

Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a ‘post turtle’ was.

The old rancher said, “When you’re driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that’s a ‘post turtle’.”

The old rancher saw a puzzled look on the doctor’s face, so he continued to explain. “You know he didn’t get up there by himself, he doesn’t belong up there, he doesn’t know what to do while he is up there, and you just want to help the dumb ass get down.”

U.S. Folks… let’s do our best in the upcoming election to keep the turtles off the fence posts!

And remember to take some time out every day just for you, to count your blessings, hug your loved ones and enjoy life’s wonders.  I hope you have a really great day!

Regina Brett’s 45 life lessons and 5 to grow on

by Regina Brett

(As published in The Plain Dealer, Cleveland, Ohio, Sunday May 28, 2006, 10:13 AM)

To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me.

It is the most-requested column I’ve ever written. My odometer rolls over to 50 this week, so here’s an update:

1. Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

4. Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

6. You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

7. Cry with someone. It’s more healing than crying alone.

8. It’s OK to get angry with God. He can take it.

9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.

10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.

11. Make peace with your past so it won’t screw up the present.

12. It’s OK to let your children see you cry.

13. Don’t compare your life to others’. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn’t be in it.

15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don’t worry; God never blinks.

16. Life is too short for long pity parties. Get busy living, or get busy dying.

17. You can get through anything if you stay put in today.

18. A writer writes. If you want to be a writer, write.

19. It’s never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.

20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don’t take no for an answer.

21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don’t save it for a special occasion. Today is special.

22. Overprepare, then go with the flow.

23. Be eccentric now. Don’t wait for old age to wear purple.

24. The most important sex organ is the brain.

25. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

“Good morning…”

“This is Mrs. Olsen.  You need to come get your cat out of my garden!”

“Excuse me?”

“I said, you need to come get your cat out of my garden.  I don’t want him crapping all over the place!”

“I’m afraid you’re mistake…”

“I want him out now!”

“But we don’t have a cat.”

“Don’t lie to me!  I know it’s your cat and I want him out of my garden!”

“Seriously, we have a dog but we don’t have a cat.”

“Yes you do – and it’s in my garden and I want him out of there!”

“Ma’am… we do NOT own a cat!”

“Damnit!  I just hate people like you!”

Poor Mrs. Olsen.  I don’t know if she was just so frustrated by a cat being in her garden that she dialed the wrong number and didn’t realize it – or if she really believed that it honestly was our cat.  Whatever the reason, it was never mentioned again.
