What are We Doin’ Here?

In case you’ve just arrived on the scene and haven’t read the articles on God, heaven, angels, etc., here’s a quick summary of some of the spiritual stuff we’ve discussed.

In my opinion (or wild guess – your choice):

1. God is likely not an individual entity but rather a total of all of the love, wisdom and power that exists in all creations.

2. Heaven may be just another existence or set of dimensions that coexists with ours.

3. Heaven’s inhabitants (angels, whatever…) are individual entities (sort of “spirit”-types) who are just a normal part of this existence.

4. We humans may be just another one of these spiritual entities who are spending a short time here on earth occupying an animal body.

So why have I come to these conclusions?  Because at this point in my life, these are the only semi-logical cinder blocks that I can slap together to create some type of a foundation for an understandable (for me anyway) reason for our human existence. If I try to go back further to the reasons for God’s existence or a logical purpose for “heaven”, I wind up slamming into the proverbial wall.  Right now all I can do is assume that the all-encompassing power of all creations that we have personified into a god or gods exists – and has always existed – just because “that’s the way it is”.  The other existence (or existences) that we normally refer to as “heaven” are there (or here) for the same reason – although I do strongly feel that there is probably some type of “love” foundation supporting the presence and activities of these existences.

So what are we humans doin’ here on earth?  With the above foundation in place, the answer to this question is a bit more obvious.  We’re here to learn!  If we are indeed just another one of the inhabitants of heaven, we’re likely somewhere on the road between “Just Startin’” and “Almost There” in a developmental process.  Assuming that “There” is probably unachievable, “Almost There” would be a desired destination.  The more closely we approached that level of development, the more capable we would be of performing whatever tasks that needed to be accomplished.  Or maybe the main goal of the “system” is simply development of the individual entities that make up the system.  It would seem that this would tend to make the overall system stronger.

If we also include as a major part of our development, learning the true meaning of love right along with the knowledge and wisdom factors, we would wind up with an absolutely kick-butt organization/environment.  Then if God really is the total of all of the love, wisdom and power in all creations, each little bit of individual development would pop “him” up a notch or two on the old scale. Everybody and everything benefits!  That seems like a pretty cool goal to me.

Dang, what if it really is that simple?  The system (the all-inclusive “everything”) exists just to develop and get stronger.  Because we’re part of the system – and likely a fairly important part – our job is to develop and get stronger too.  That’s it!  That’s all we gotta do.

So what would help us accomplish this fairly quickly?  I know – we could take the fast track and go to school for awhile.  How about enrolling in the University of Earth?  Let’s see – we (the clueless) would be transported to a new environment and slapped into a weird animal body and with only a few basic guidelines to work with, be required to interact with some of a few billion other clueless entities.   The possibilities for learning are unlimited!

We could be exposed to all different kinds of situations (some cool and some yucky) and have a pile of varying experiences that would relate in some way to the things we needed to learn.  We would be given a lot of latitude in how we approach this learning process – the resources we use and the decisions we make (it’s a freedom of choice thing).  We would give it our best shot (which frequently may be nothing more than stumbling through a given set of circumstances to have the experience of feeling the emotions associated with these circumstances) then – we’d get to go back home.  Cool!

Nah, it couldn’t be that easy!  This God and heaven stuff just has to be extremely complicated.  It’s far too important to the welfare of man and all of creation to be that simple.  Hells bells, I’m sure we’ll need millions of books – and articles – and radio & TV programs – and videos & audio tapes to even start to scratch the surface of such a complex subject.  And… we’ll need thousands and thousands of folks talkin’ about all this complicated stuff to large groups of people at least once or maybe twice a week.  And – we need at least four gazillion different opinions on how all this complicated stuff works (OK, make that four gazillion and one…) along with all of the recommended procedures that we just gotta follow to make certain we’re complying with all the rules…

I know, it appears that I’m being a butt about this, but that’s really not the case.  We all are only doing those things which we have been led to believe we should do.  We are all only thinking those things which we have been led to believe we should think.  And yes, this is a type of programming thing. No, it’s not “bad” at all – it’s just the way it is.  My intent in the previous paragraph was obviously to illuminate the complexity of our current belief systems and to promote thinking and positive questioning of our personal beliefs.  We humans do at times, have a tendency to extrapolate toward the super-complicated.  And – if we stand back and view the world’s diverse and frequently contradictory spiritual and religious beliefs with an unbiased viewpoint (good luck, Leroy!), it’s easy to see just how complex the situation has become.

Soooo… to keep my old brain from overheating, I’ve decided to use the KISS principle.  For those few of you who have never been exposed to this acronym, it has absolutely nothing to do with the well-known rock group (and no, I’m not “that” Gene Simmons even though I think it’s pretty cool to have my name associated with – yes, I had my name first –such a successful group).  KISS stands for “Keep It Simple, Stupid”.  So that’s my approach to spirituality.  It works for me!

Yep, I think we may be here at the U of E (University of Earth, remember?) for a few years just to have some experiences, to learn more about love and about ourselves and to develop & gain an appreciation for this great creation.  Then when we’re done here, we’re goin’ back home. I don’t know about you, but I think it’ll be a real kick in the butt to find out just what the hell this stuff is really all about.  Cool!  What an experience!
